¡Projects!
I classify my work as cultural documentary photography, which allows me to document the acts of resistance that are taking place in the overlooked and marginalized communities of Los Angeles County. My portfolio is categorized into three sections: (1) Vaquera/x/o’s, (2) Chicana/x/o Tales, and (3) Foster Youth Theory.
These categories engage in my cultural documentary photography framework—while some challenge it, pressuring our rigid frameworks of knowledge production, representation, and storytelling!
VAQUERA/X/O’S
This chapter of my work focuses on the Vaquera/x/o subculture of Los Angeles County, documenting: community advocacy efforts, daily cultural practices, and the spectacle of gatherings.
I label this set of work as cultural products of resistance—pieces that challenge reality and our understanding of oneself—a larger set of vocabulary, details, and new realities are built here to construct the Chicana/x/o Tales universe.
CHICANA/X/O TALES
FOSTER YOUTH THEORY
This work directly challenges the shortcomings that are prescribed to the foster youth identity through a display of creative abilities and community member self-expressions.
