LA RODEO BAN

Vaquera/x/o’s waiting in line for public comment, 2023

¡Arriba la cultura!

December 6, 2023

Vaquera/x/o’s warm up horses outside LA City Hall before the march, 2023

One thing I know for certain about Vaquera/x/o’s: the community is not a monolith. It’s a cultural lifestyle that changes with every new generation that comes forward to claim it—bringing new perspectives, challenging the successor, and writing new definitions of who they want to be.

To be witness to a culmination of blood-defined-race-quantities—pushing together for a cause beyond self-preservation—what was on the line: the Vaquera/x/o.

Hearing screams of passion rooted in the acceptance of death of oneself for their lifestyle—the Vaquera/x/o will never die.

A full story of this event has been written by a great Latina/x/o writer, Janette Villafana, at LA Taco—check it out: ‘These Animals Saved My Life:’ L.A.’s Equestrian Communities Fight Ordinance Seeking to Ban Local Rodeos
